CONFIDENTIALITY

Confidentiality is a main component of counselling. It is the cornerstone of building trust and respect in a therapeutic relationship. It is the foundation which will help us get to the core of the what is affecting you.

What is discussed between the client and the therapist will be protected and will not be shared with anyone except for in the following legal situations:

  • If you have indicated that you are likely to harm yourself or another person, by law, I am required to report this to the police.
  • With regards to children, or a vulnerable adult, I am required by law to report any abuse or suspected abuse to the Children's Aid Society.
  • If a legal court ordered subpoena is given me, to release contents of your file, your documents will be turned over to the courts and in this case I cannot ensure that your confidentiality will be protected.
