Becoming US (Perinatal Couples Training)
Becoming US is a program that prepares parents pre and post child birth as to what to expect, and normalizes the experience of becoming parents for the first time or multiple times. Each pregnancy is different, and the experiences, responses and expectations that we have can also be different. This program helps clients to set up a plan prior to childbirth, and helps them to process post childbirth, helping parents to unpack their experiences together and strengthening ties.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy which helps people to develop skills and strategies to process and unpack present, ongoing issues. CBT helps people to examine how their thoughts, feelings and behaviours impact how they make sense of what is happening around them and how these perceptions affect the way they respond to situations. Through the use of thought records, reflection and understanding of personal reactions, clients quickly learn to identify triggers, unhealthy thoughts, and can challenge their own behaviours, thereby changing them.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT Tapping)
The Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as tapping, is an evidence-based modality which combines the ancient Chinese principals of acupuncture with psychology. It is also known as tapping, as it involves tapping on meridian points, in order to reduce emotional blockages or charge in your body. This modality provides rapid results because of its ability to reduce emotional charge.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
With its foundations based in attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFCT) focuses on emotion and emotional responses in relationships. This modality is designed to get to the root feelings of an issue and helps couples to effectively communicate with each other on an emotional level, thereby strengthening the relationship and the couple’s emotional connection.
Grief Therapy
Grief therapy is designed to help individuals/families and couples to understand and process their loss by working through their emotions and coming to a place of acceptance. This could be a death, miscarriage, loss of relationship, loss of identity, loss of pet. Grief looks differently for everyone.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a person-centred modality designed to help individuals move past feelings of ambivalence within themselves in order to impact the desired change. Change is achieved by working with individuals, in accordance with their values and beliefs through the various stages of change in order for them to motivate themselves to take action.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative Therapy emphasizes that we are the experts of our own lives. It is designed to help you observe your present narrative, deconstruct it, and re-story allowing for a different narrative and therefore a different perspective. This therapy helps clients to interpret and make sense of their experiences and understand that we can have multiple realities/experiences in a situation.
Prepare/Enrich Program
As a trained Enrich Prepare Facilitator, I help couples to identify their strengths, communication patterns and relationship stressors and introduce skill building exercises to help you understand each other and to overcome challenges. This involves an assessment (at a cost to the client) which helps to identify the areas of challenge which will then be improved by skill building exercises.
Sex Therapy
This therapy is often used conjunction with couples therapy. However, I often have individuals who come to see me to address a variety of sex related issues.
Sex therapy is designed to help both individuals and couples to unpack and understand issues impacting their sexual function. This may include medical, psychological, personal, or interpersonal factors, impacting their sexual satisfaction, including unwanted sexual contact or experiences. The goal of sex therapy is to help people move past their challenges, be it physical or emotional in order to have a satisfying sexual connection with another person (people) and pleasurable sex life. Sex therapy DOES NOT involve any kind of sexual contact with clients.
Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR)
Traumatic Incident Reduction TIR is a rapid and extremely effective method of reducing traumatic stress and emotions from a past event, or series of events. It involves revisiting the trauma until the client can make sense of it. Using this modality, clients will notice that emotional charge is reduced drastically. Another aspect of this modality involves unblocking, where a series of questions about the incident is asked in a certain order. This also exposes clients to the situation and helps to reduce emotional charge allowing clients to process the situation faster.
